Master Contractors Accreditation Bureau (MCAB)
Many of our members have been approached to update details or register or become involved in the Master Contractors Accreditation Bureau (MCAB). Please note that MCAB is not a statutory organisation and registration with MCAB is not compulsory.
MCAB is a private company that was registered in 2006 and apparently has three directors. It seems that their main objectives are to provide credibility to contractors, to do marketing of their registered members and to provide insurance cover.
As MCAB is a private company, all fees paid to them are controlled by the company and its directors. No safeguards appear to be in place which makes the directors accountable to members of MCAB as would be the case with a statutory body or an employers’ organisation. Should MCAB offer financial services such as insurance products, it would have to comply with various pieces of financial legislation such as being licensed.
It is uncertain what market share is held by MCAB. A cursory glance at their website reveals no members on their membership list. It seems as though they might have made use of MBA membership lists when targeting contractors to approach for membership.
Members are advised to use the necessary caution when deciding whether to take up the offer extended by MCAB. |
